About Petrovac
Petrovac is a sunny, touristic little town on the Montenegrin part of the Adriatic coast. It is located in a beautiful sand bay and is surrounded by pinewood, olive trees and other Mediterranean flora. Despite of the partially uncontrollable "building spree" on the Montenegrin coast, Petrovac was able to conserve its atmosphere of a fishing village.
Petrovac has about 2,000 inhabitants. During the peak season, this number can be up to ten times higher. The inhabitants are very hospitable. Socialising with the population is no problem. The two islands "Sveta Nedjela" and "Katice" are located 1.5 km away from the village. On the island "Sveta Nedjela", a church was built by stranded seemen. On the southern point of the beach after a 10-meter-long tunnel, there is the idyllic situated eatery "Ponta". 400m south behind a Petrovac hill, one may end up in a further bathing bay. The smooth pebble beach "Lucice" is approximately 200m long and 20m wide.

Near Petrovac, an arterial road to Podgorica branches off which bypasses Lake Scutari "Skadersko jezero". This place has its name "Petrovac" since a public voting in the village after the First World War. Until then, the place was called "Lastva", named after the fortress from the 16th century. The place Lastva was first mentioned by King Milutin in 1307. Here, Roman mosaics from the 3rd and 4th century were found. The village was formed at the end of the 17th century and had about 400 inhabitants. The oldest health facility in the vicinity is the "Lazaret" from the 16th century. It served as a quarantine facility for sick people to the times of the epidemics. Outside of Petrovac, both the islands "Holy Nedelja" (Sunday) and "Katic" are situated. On the island "Holy Nedelja", there is a church. It is believed, that this church was built by a seaman who saved himself to this island after he got into distress.
